The Maritime Standardbred Pleasure Horse Association is an organization primarily promoting the use of retired Standardbred racehorses as saddle horses. The Maritimes has a large Standardbred race horse community giving many opportunities for retirees to have a new life. Many Standardbreds each year find themselves learning new disciplines after life at the track. Educating others on the versatility of the Standardbred may help dismiss some of the stigmas associated with the breed.
Started in 2007, the goal of this organization is to promote the breed as an all-purpose pleasure horse through sharing success stories and retraining techniques. This organization will also act as a community of people with the same good intentions to communicate when horses are available for adoption. Exposing the use of the breed is also encouraged through participation at local shows, parades, clinics, and conventions.
The MSPHA also has a fund raising campaign on right now. We have buttons available to help show your support to the standardbred breed. Buttons are $5.00 each and proceeds go towards helping to find these great horses new loving homes. To order your button today, please contact us at adoptables@mspha.ca
