** ADOPTION PENDING** – “Rum Tuff Customer” aka “Tuffy”

Tuffy is now looking for the perfect home! He is a handsome black gelding with 2 small hind white socks. He is 7 years old,  approx. 15.3-16 HH and very easy to work around. Tuffy has actually had a rider on him occasionally but has not officially been started to saddle. He has accepted a saddle and rider with no issues. He is best suited for light riding, occasional trails, or as a companion for another. Great to work around, crossties, pick up feet, brush, lead etc. Tuffy did not get along well with his pasturemate in his previous home so  his potential new home would ideally have turnout options for him. He has been turned out in herd situations before with no other problems, and loves the mares he is currently being boarded with. We are thinking that it was a conflict of personalities between the 2 horses.

** UPDATE – March 3, 2013 – Tuffy  was lunged at a walk and some trot work. He accepted a saddle and a rider at a walk with ease.  Tuffy will continue his training until the perfect home is found for him.

Tuffy is located in Truro and available to an approved home only!

Mandy needs to be adopted by someone with horse experience as she is quite an energetic horse.

Mandy is located in Truro and is available to an approved home only.

ADOPTED THROUGH MSA – “Casimir Eclipse” aka “Lily”

**Update** Lily is now UTD on her vaccines and has been moved to Morning Star Acres in NB. Any inquiries for Lily will be forwarded to MSA, or they can be reached directly at  morningstaracres@gmail.com

Lily is a pretty, 10 year old  bay mare looking for a loving and gentle home.  She’s approx 14’3 – 15hh and raced until she was 5 but wasn’t overly competitive so her owners decided to retire her.  Her owners then sent her to a riding stable where she excelled as a lesson and trail horse for about 3 years.  She has been ridden English and Western and was leased by a young girl for a year who even jumped her  She walks, trots and canters (she has a pretty bouncy trot).  Her owner has never seen her pace under saddle.  Also, part of her training as a race horse was on dirt roads in the country so she could be a lot of fun in harness too!

Lily has not been ridden for about 2 years but her owners do not think it would take much to get her going again.  She’s very easy to work with and does well living outside with other horses or stabled with lots of turnout.  She maintains a good condition on lots of hay and very little grain if any.  She’s sound, in excellent health and hasn’t worn shoes since she raced.  Can be a little fussy about getting her halter put on and a little nervous with a new farrier but once you gain her trust she is fine.  Trailers well and is very good for the vet.  Located outside of New Glasgow.

Lily is available to approved applicants. for more information on lily please e-mail adoptables@mspha.ca

ADOPTED BY MSPHA – “Soul Chaser” aka “Souley”

Souley is a handsome, 11 year old gelding looking to find a great new home! Souley has had a very successful race career to date, and it is time for a slower pace away from the track. He is approx. 16hh, dark bay with no white markings on his face, but has 4 white socks…very flashy! When approaching him in his stall he will put his ears back, but he is easy to work around and has no dirt. He has been turned out with other horses off of track grounds and got along with them great.

Souley is being retied as he does have an injury to his ankle that should not be pushed any more with the strains of racing. His current owners feel that with a little bit of time off and some time to just be a horse, he would be great as a flat riding horse or for trails (no jumping).

Souley is located in Truro and is available to an approved home only. http://www.mspha.ca/application

For more information on Souley please contact adoptables@mspha.ca

**ADOPTION PENDING** – Mysti – Sound, Greenbroke Mare!

**Update: March 3, 2013 – Mysti will be spending the next 2 weeks in the beautiful new facility on the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus. During this time she will be handled daily by students who are learning many aspects of equine health and care. This will be a great experience for both the students and we look forward to the updates of Mysti during this time. Please note: Mysti is still available for adoption during this time, so please do not hesitate to inquire about this mare.

For more information on the DAC Equine Program: http://www.dal.ca/academics/programs/undergraduate/business-management/specialties/equine.html

Mysti is a sound, green-broke 8-year old Standardbred mare who has never raced (she doesn’t even have a tattoo)! She loves attention and being brushed. She is great to work around, vet and have her feet done. She is green broke but fun to ride and she can canter. Her current owner has ridden her several times this fall and had a couple of lessons with her coach. Mysti is ready to continue in the direction of training you so wish to go. Mysti is approx. 14.2-14.3hh. she would make a great horse for a small adult or experienced youth. She would look fantastic as a little hunter / jumper pony!

Mysti has been vet checked and her lungs are clear, no heaves. She does have an excess of flaps in her nose which prevented her from being raced. She has been vet checked because of this and is fine for riding, just not racing. When she is sedated is makes her sound sometimes like she is a pug dog.

Mysti is located in Truro. She is available for a small adoption fee  and to an approved home only! http://www.mspha.ca/application

For more information on this lovely mare please contact adoptables@mspha.ca

ADOPTED – “Lili of the Fields” aka “Lili”

Lili of the Fieds is a lovely, friendly 3 year old filly who is now looking for a new home. Lili is sound, great on the crossties, picks up her feet, and does not bite or kick. She is bay with a small star. Loves to be fussed over and receive attention from people or other horses. Lili is approx 14.3-15hh, and is in great shape.

**Update – October 26th, 2012**  Lili is now available  and looking for a new home. She had been adopted to a great new home with 4 other horses but things did not workout after trying several different things. Lili got along great with the older horses in hew new found “herd” but she had some dominance issues with a 6 month old filly that could not be rectified. Lili would be best suited for a home where she is probably the youngest of the herd, at least until she matures some more herself. Otherwise there were no other problems with her in her new home, and had actually shown great improvement with her groundwork in the round pen. Lili has had her feet done, has been dewormed again and only has one single booster left to complete her series of shots.

**Update** August 13th, 2012** Lili had another successful session under saddle. She had the western saddle on, accepted a rider to mount from the ground and to sit on her back. Mother Nature  did not allow for outdoor work, but Lili did great with the work that was accomplished inside. She seems very eager to learn!

**Update** July 25th, 2012 – Lili was introduced to the saddle today and accepted it with ease! She had no troubles with the saddle going on, having the saddle tightened and accepting pressure in the stirrups. She had accepted 2 people on her back (one mounted from a chair and one mounted using the stirrup). She also quickly understood the concept of lunging! When she goes to a home where she has regular turnout throughout the day she will focus very easily on her training!

Lili is looking for a home away from the races as she is just not suited for the sport. Would make an EXCELLENT candidate as a saddle horse, but has not yet been started. Needs someone with experience. This mare is located in Truro and is available to approved applicants http://www.mspha.ca/application

ADOPTED BY MSPHA – “Dreambigorstayhome” aka “Dreamy”

The decision has now bwwn made that he is no longer suited for the sport and available to a non-racing home. He is still sound and would be a great candidate for an undersaddle mount. will update with more information in the coming days.

Dreamy is a4 year old, black gelding who is now available for a new home. This lovely gelding is sound, loves to trot, and would make a great candidate for a saddle horse. Very flashy with a white star, white on the lower lip, and 2 white feet! This gelding will require an experienced horseperson as he is great to work around, but can sometimes be jumpy when outside.

Dreambigorstayhome is available to an approved, loving home only. http://www.mspha.ca/application

Would be a great candidate as a versatile saddle horse. Enforcer is 4 years old, approximately 15.3hh (not officially measured) and is the picture of health!
