Sad News for Central Nova Scotia Harness Racing

Tuesday, July 9th it was announced that the next card of races at the Truro Raceway would be it’s last. With Grand Circuit week scheduled for the following week all harness racing activities will not go forward following the 14th.

As stated on the Standardbred Canada Website ” Officials with Truro Raceway have touched base with Trot Insider and have stated that “notices (have been) handed out to horsemen today (Wednesday, July 10). Sunday (July 14) is last day for live racing and simulcast. All horses off grounds by August 15.”The Truro Harness Horse Owners Association has reached out to the provincial government to discuss a solution that would keep the grounds open for stabling and training.

In light of these recent events the MSPHA has been contacted by many wondering what will happen to the horses, and some offering to help in any way they can. More information will be available over the coming days and we will keep everyone updated. Temporary and long term homes for some horses may be needed so if you think you may have accommodations please e-mail to let us know.

Our fingers are crossed along with the horse owners, trainers, employees and everyone involved with the harness racing community that something can be resolved to continue with this sport!
