“Knight Mission” aka “Dave”

Knight Mission is a gorgeous, 3-year old colt who is looking for a new home. His very short but successful race career met it’s demise when he suffered broken sesamoid bone on his rear left leg. Upon the advise of his veterinarian after about 8 months of rest (depending on his progress) he should be able to start into light work and will eventually be a good candidate for trails (no jumping or high impact sports). Dave’s future was looking to be a very promising one with 2 of this 3 starts getting him to the winner’s circle. This colt is about 16hh, healthy, shiny black coat and in great body condition. Aside from his injury he is a picture of health. He is very friendly and loves attention.

Betty is an 8 year old Shetland Welsh cross pony. She was purchased 7 years ago having it in mind that she would be trained for the owners young daughter. Having several people attempt to make her safe for children to ride, Betty has proven to be dangerous under saddle. In experienced hands she may make a great little cart horse.

Betty does have a little bit of history of founder. When she foundered in the past, once she was taken off of grass, her lameness went away. This little mare can be turned out after the first good frost of the season until about May, but she must be fed hay during the summer.

A special report is released by Equine Canada regarding the Economics of Horse racing in Canada.

“The racing sector represents a small percentage of the total number of horses in Canada, but a significantly higher percentage of the overall economic contribution that comes from horses in Canada. With 45,000 horses active in the racing sector (five per cent of the total Canadian herd), the horse racing sector provides 26% of the total economic contribution, a $5.7 billion annual economic impact. Racing in Ontario represents the largest provincial sector for the national racing industry, with more than 68% of the total racing opportunities and 86% of the total purses earned in 2010.”

“Sunny”

Silver Sunshine aka “Sunshine” aka “Sunny” is looking for a loving home. He is lovely to work around, loves kids, and is very friendly. Sunshine raced into his early teens, where of his last few racing years he doubled as a pleasure horse undersaddle. He has been shown a couple of times under saddle and in roadster classes, doing well in both. Sunshine has been spending his post-race retirement doing trails and rides for children.

Sunshine would be suitable for light riding on the trails or ringwork. Sometimes he can be energetic, so he should have a rider with some experience. He would also make a great companion or children’s 4-H showmanship horse. Sunshine is Located between Bridgewater and Liverpool and looking for an EXCEPTIONAL home only!

Just before Christmas, Cindy Christie made a presentation to the MSPHA and Team SOS in the winners circle at the Truro Raceway. This presentation was following up after the Mildred Williams Driving Challenge and Roast Beef dinner fund raiser! Members of the MSPHA were able to take part in the dinner, and had a great time! We would like to take the time to send a HUGE thank-you to Cindy Christie, Kelly MacEachen, the Truro Raceway, participating drivers, the ladies of Team SOS, and everyone who was involved in this great event! We look forward to taking part next year!
