Spring is upon us, and that means it is almost time for the Fifth Annual Atlantic Horse Fair! Great clinicians, vendors and horses will be a part of this years events! The Truro Raceway is always a HUGE supporter of the MSPHA and it’s involvement with the AHF! We encourage you to check out this years clinicians and upcoming events as the AHF website is updated! A New Initiative to Central Nova Harness Racing!

Millbrook First Nation and Harness Racing Nova Scotia are teaming up for a potential new gaming complex and new harness racing facility in Truro! This could be a great opportunity for the Central Nova Harness Racing Community!

Just before Christmas, Cindy Christie made a presentation to the MSPHA and Team SOS in the winners circle at the Truro Raceway. This presentation was following up after the Mildred Williams Driving Challenge and Roast Beef dinner fund raiser! Members of the MSPHA were able to take part in the dinner, and had a great time! We would like to take the time to send a HUGE thank-you to Cindy Christie, Kelly MacEachen, the Truro Raceway, participating drivers, the ladies of Team SOS, and everyone who was involved in this great event! We look forward to taking part next year!

10-year old standardbred gelding looking for a loving new home! Willie is a handsome, bay color with a white blaze and white socks….very stunning! He is very sociable, and great with kids! Just not fast enough anymore! Willie is located in Truro, and would make a lovely addition to any herd! Don’t wait for this fella, as he wont last long!!

“Keeptheball Rollin” aka “Rollie”

Kind 10 year old gelding available to a very special home. Rollie is now being retired from racing, and is looking for a new forever home! He comes from a loving family in harness racing, and they wish only the best for him.

Rollie loves children and is great to work around in the barn. He is black, with 3 little white socks, and has big kind eyes. He is approx. 15.3HH and is a nice size for any sized rider. Rolley will be best suited with an experienced horseperson, and has not yet been started to saddle. He has had a very successful race career, and it is now his time for his well-earned retirement!

Rollie is located in Truro.

Truro Raceway to Harness the Cure!

TRURO RACEWAY IS PROUD TO PRESENT

The 5th annual MILDRED WILLIAMS DRIVING CHALLENGE: Ladies vs Men!
NOVEMBER 20TH 2011 at the TRURO RACEWAY GRANDSTAND!

Tickets are $25.00 which includes a delicious roast beef dinner, VIP seats upstairs in the Grand Stand for live harness racing, door prizes and more! There will be a 50:50 draw, as well as a $10.00 flash balloon drop for some great prizes!

The Mildred Williams Driving Series is used to honor female harness racing pioneer Mildred Williams while bringing awareness to women’s health and their presence in the harness racing sport!

Show your support for the Survivors on Shortt’s Lake Breast Cancer Dragon Boat Team, and the Maritime Standardbred Pleasure Horse Association in their efforts in promoting and rehoming retired racehorses.

“H.V. Jimmy” aka “Jimmy”

Very handsome and sleek black, 6-year old gelding available for a home in mid-November. The pictures of this gelding do not do him justice! He is in great condition, healthy rich black coat and and is a nice size (about 15.3HH). His owner describes him as having no “dirt” at all, but he is smart and keen, and therefore best suited for an experienced horseperson. His current owner feels that once he is trained to saddle, he will be a horse anyone would be able to ride. He is affectionate, LOVES to be scratched, and loves apples too!

Jimmy is up to date on vaccines, deworming, dental, and farrier work, and gets regular turnout. He is now retired from racing because of his front suspensory, but he is now sound on it. His owner would like to keep him until mid-November, but is able to book viewings for him anytime before then. Jimmy will make a really lovely horse and would look stunning under saddle!

Tickets are $2.00 each, or 3 for $5.00, and will be sold until the end of October. We will be at the NSPE Select Yearling Sale selling tickets as well! Also, please make sure to check out the NSAC website. This fall the AC has introduced a new, 2-stall horse barn for students to use in the Equine Business Management Program. Handsome, 5 year old, dark bay gelding looking for a new home! Eli is just not fast enough to race anymore, and is looking for a change in pace!

Eli is very loving and quiet when he is in the field or barn, but he is can be spooky around trucks and tractors when he is on the track. Eli is very quiet to be around and work with. He does have some problems with his stifle so hard riding would not be possible as his owners do not think he would be able to tolerate it. He would benefit from a home where he would be exercised, ridden lightly, and have plenty of turnout. Eli is looking to retire from the race scene soon!
